In the upper-right corner, click "log in" (you must log into JIRA separately from Xircles)
Use your username/password. You should now be logged into JIRA
I don't know why this is so complicated. It kept me from contributing to Groovy for months. I occasionally see emails like yours (I've sent them, too!) wondering what is going on with the Codehaus.org website. I have also had trouble with Xircles, not just JIRA. Also, if you ever forget your username and/or password, the password reset feature does not seem to work correctly, either!
On a related note, Xircles suspended my Grails mailing list subscription for about 3 months, then it suddenly started back up for no reason!
Please write back if the above algorithm doesn't work or if I've forgotten a stop.
P.S. In one instance (I think password reset) I had to guess that the username it wanted is not your entire email address, but just the part before the @ symbol (one of the "features"). If you ever get really stuck, this may help you.
